The idea of Via Bacovia came not suddenly but gradually, out of a passion for mountain running. At the beginning there were runs in the hills around Bacău. The first run was on the Osebiți hill, where the Gherț chapel is located, it was on 21 July 2016, a 10Km run. Although this chapel had been known about for a long time, it stood there mostly alone.
Slowly, over time, the running area for training has expanded, new trails have been travelled on the surrounding hills, photos have been collected, running enthusiasts have gathered. Thus, from one discussion to another, the idea of organising a mountain running (or trail running) competition near Bacău was born, in order to bring runners from other parts of the country to Bacău, not only runners from Bacău to run “on the move”. It was also a matter of prestige for the name of the city and the county. This is how it came to be that on Army Day in October, the first mountain running competition near Bacău was held, under the “command” of the 95th Air Force Base, with two events: a 10km cross and a 21km half-marathon, with 305 participants. The competition was held at Valea Budului and it was a great and unexpected success, which was beneficial to organise a second edition in 2019, with more courage and more elan,
The second edition of the Bud Valley Trail took place in October 2019 and additionally introduced a 42km marathon race. The number of participants this time totalled around 600. Organiser and initiator was also the 95th Air Base, It is worth mentioning here the special effort made by the Air Base servicemen, also part of them are mountain runners.
At both events, runners from the Runscape group contributed to the organisation of the route, assistance on the route and also to the creation and maintenance of the competition website.
