A start like autumn weather
When autumn dresses the hills of Măgurei in shades of mauve, every step on the Via Bacovia trails becomes a poem.
Our weekend hike, also captured in the post on the official Via Bacovia page, was more than just a simple outing in nature – it was a journey through the tranquillity, the colours and the soft breath of autumn in Bacău.
We set off early in the morning with light rucksacks and open hearts from the bus stop. The air was chilly and the sunlight either reached us or didn’t. The forest at the foot of the Măgurei welcomed us with a clean smell of damp earth and leaves, and the silence was broken only by our footsteps and here and there the barking of dogs, happy that tourists had come on the route.
The road linking the present with history
The chosen route is part of the Via Bacovia network – an initiative that brings together movement, history and heritage. In the Măgurei area, nature is in harmony with the rustic and the people’s life.
Among them is Emil Brăescu, the visionary nobleman who built the village school and left behind the Rosetti-Brăescu Mansion – a symbol of responsibility and elegance of yesteryear.
The route follows old footpaths, cart tracks and stretches of forest that open up to unexpected views and gentle glades. It’s that moment when you realise that local tourism is not just about movement, but also a connection with place.
Landscape that speaks in colour
The photos in the post say it all: the foliage of the mountain, the clear sky, the group of smiling hikers. Autumn here has a special intensity – it’s as if every tree wants to be a painter, every valley wants to become poetry.
Every now and then, a wide glade offered us a perfect place to pause. A snack, a joke, a smile – and then back on the road. No-one was in a hurry; everyone seemed to feel that it was more important to ‘be there’ than to ‘get somewhere’.
Why we love these hikes
Via Bacovia isn’t just about marked trails. It means community. It means friends greeting each other at the starting point in the morning and sharing hot tea on arrival.
It means rediscovering local nature, the places close to home, the cultural roots and stories that give Bacău its identity.
This hike was proof that you don’t need great distances to have an adventure. All it takes is a step, a clear day and a willingness to look at the world around you differently.

Close
As we descended back down to the village, the sun was setting behind the hills. The light was warm, golden, and everything seemed to be settling down peacefully.
We returned home with flushed cheeks, dusty boots and light hearts.
Hiking the Via Bacovia is not just a tourist experience – it’s a return to balance, to the poetry within us and the simple beauty of nature.
And if you haven’t been yet… well, autumn is the perfect time to discover it.
